Beach Volleyball
After being
developed in 1895, volleyball is now one of the big five international sports,
aided by it’s introduction to the summer Olympics in 1964. Over the last decade particularly, volleyball
has witnessed unprecedented growth.
Originating in Southern California and Hawaii, beach volleyball now receives worldwide
popularity, even in countries without traditional beaches, like Switzerland. Competitors will have the unique opportunity to play beach volleyball on what are arguably some of Australia's, and even the world's, best beaches, here in Perth. They will also gain exposure to a fundamental aspect of the Australian lifestyle, on one of Perth's stunning beaches positioned on the Indian Ocean. After competitions for the day are complete, why not enjoy the sunset over the Indian Ocean while relaxing on the sand with fresh fish and chips?
2011 is the
second year that beach volleyball has been part of the Indian Rim Asian
University Games sports program, after a highly successful introduction in
2009. 2011 Divisions: Women Men | SPORT | TEAM SQUAD SIZE MAX | MIN REQUIRED TO TAKE FIELD |
