Hockey 6's
Games played
with curved sticks and a ball have been found throughout history and the world.
There are 4000-year-old drawings from Egypt. Hurling dates to before 1272
BC in Ireland,
and there is a depiction from ca. 600 BC in Ancient Greece where the game may
have been called kerētízein
because it was played with a horn-like stick. In Inner
Mongolia, China,
the Daur people have been playing beikou,
a game similar to modern field hockey, for about 1,000 years, and there were
hockey-like games throughout Europe during the
Middle Ages.
The governing body is the 116-member International
Hockey Federation (FIH). Men's field hockey has been played at all but two summer
Olympic Games since 1908, while women's field hockey has been played at the summer
Olympic Games since 1980.
In the 2009 Indian Rim Asian University Games, the
University of Western Australia men's side faced off against the men of
University Malaya in a three game series. Fast,
entertaining and always played in good spirits, hockey is one of those sports
that is just made for the university sports environment. Come and join us at
the world class UWA Hockey Superturf for a great half-turf tournament. 2011 Divisions: Women Men | SPORT | TEAM SQUAD SIZE MAX | MIN REQUIRED TO TAKE FIELD |
