Judo
Judo is a modern martial
art and combat sport created in Japan
in 1882. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the
object is to either throw or take down one's
opponent to the ground, immobilise or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling
maneuver.
Judo has been
translated to essentially mean “the way of gentleness.” The soft method is
characterised by the indirect application of force to defeat an opponent. This
means using one's opponent's strength against him and adapting well to changing
circumstances.
Judo has been an
Olympic sport since 1964 (men) and 1992 (women). 2011 is the first time in which judo will be fully incorporated into the Indian Rim Asian University Games sports program. Competitors will get the opportunity to play in the world class UWA International Martial Arts Complex. 2011 Divisions: Women Men | SPORT | TEAM SQUAD SIZE MAX | MIN REQUIRED TO TAKE FIELD |
